Portfolio 701: Surging Ahead
January 22nd 2007 14:53
Portfolio 701* is just shy of $330 away from its first $1,000 profit, in less than a month, as it surged by 0.64% to finished Monday off with a record high return of 3.49%.
There were fourteen gainers and two neutrals after discounting brokerage costs. Top peforming stock was IMA.
The portfolio value on Monday finalised at $53,970 and after-costs profit at $770.
The ASX S&P 200 benchmark index performed brilliantly with a 1% gain or 53.5 points to 5,726.6 points on the back of a rally in metal prices and the US cold-snap fueled oil prices. The positive sentiments are expected to continue as expectations on Wednesday's release of local CPI figures influencing the Reserve's decision on raising interest rates remain mild
A new record was created again by Portfolio 1.5-EW* with a 1% gain to a closing of 41.1% with valuation at $59,425 and after-costs profit at $16,378.
More than half of the portfolio stocks were gainers with LIM being the best performer.
On paper, the two portfolios are generating a total profit of $17,148 to date or a return of 16.87% collectively while the widely observed ASX S&P 200 benchmark index generated a return of 10.9% to date since August, 2006, when Portfolio 1.5-EW* was launched.
Casual observation indicates 701 and 1.5-EW are beating the market.
