Portfolio 701: Continue to climb

January 15th 2007 11:27
The transaction costs are still shaving the profits to the negatives but returns and performance wise, Portfolio 701*, climbed into positive territory for the second day together with the overall market.

Closing at a total value of $52,455, Portfolio 701 added 0.22% to 0.58% in terms of return. After-costs profit closed at -$745, a far contrast from the early days of last week which was in the thousands.

A total of eight are in positive profits and three neutrals out of the thirty five shares in the portfolio.

On the other hand, Portfolio 1.5-EW*, bounced back with a vengence as it added 0.89% to a closing of 38.14%, with total valuation at $58,182 and profits after costs at $15,135.

The return of Portfolio 1.5-EW* back to its good heyday brings up the question; "Has the steam not run out yet?" A question well worthy of further analysis.

On Monday 15th January, 2007, the market closed at a record high with the ASX S&P 200 benchmark index closed 35 points higher to 5,673.8 points as gains from various sectors added the backing on top of a rather flat lead from Wall Street on Friday.

Portfolio 701: First Positive

January 13th 2007 06:27
What is the point of participating in the sharemarket? To make money of course! And it feels nothing better when the money you invested in the shares are generating returns, be it speculative or genuine investments.

Making money is making money regardless of the methods or strategies you use. But of course, the question is do you want a series of repeated patterns of returns or just one big jackpot? Ultimately it comes to the choice and investment objective of the individual.

At Benkaiser.NET Investment Portal, pragmatism rules, and any kind of strategies that work then why not? The smell of money is not fishy, that is certain.

On Friday, 12th January, 2007, the Portal's second portfolio, Portfolio 701*, made its first positive return of 0.36% after four days of negative performance since its inception for observation on Monday. Certainly a positive sign for the portfolio despite the profits are still in negative waters after being shaved off by transaction costs.

The time is forward three months or longer, if necessary, for the portfolio to perform at least as well as the previous Portfolio 1.5-EW* which generated a record top returns of 40.58% in just five months.

Portfolio 701* closed the week with a value of $52,340 and after-costs profit at -$860.

On Portfolio 1.5-EW*, it climbed 3.11% to a closing of 37.28%, valued at $57,819 and profits after costs at $14,772.

The local market had a better performance yesterday as the ASX S&P 200 benchmark index added 44.5 points to a closing of 5609.4 points aided by the recovery of the resources stocks, particularly the miners.

Portfolio 701: Steady up

January 12th 2007 00:34
As the market was lifted by a pause in the fall of commodity prices, so were the Portal's portfolios. The ASX S&P 200 benchmark index rose 55 points to a Thursday's closing 5564.9 points as the resource shares provided some posivitism for the market.

It is believed that a commodity rally would resumed after six months of roller coaster ride for the resource sector.

Meanwhile, Portfolio 701* had another day of its steady climb upwards. The portfolio on Thursday closed at -0.5% or 0.18% higher from Wednesday's -0.68%. It rose to a total of 0.9% since the first observation from 8th January, 2006.

A total of five stocks were in positive territories after deducting transaction costs and interestingly only two shares; MEO and IMA were from energy and material sectors respectively, despite the boost provided from the resource sector to the market.

Thursday's value of the portfolio closed at $51,890 while after-costs profit was -$1,310.

Crossing over to Portfolio 1.5 - EW*, it too joined the market and Portfolio 701, by closing 0.73% to 34.17%. After-costs profit closed at $13,462 as the value wrapped up to $56,509.

Fourth day into observation of Portfolio 701 is certainly too early to tell whether the replication of "fundamental technicality" factor investment strategy is workable but so far the indicators are doing fine.

Portfolio 701: Up And Running

January 8th 2007 09:24
With the success of Portfolio 1.5 - EW*, formed and observed since August, 2006, Benkaiser.NET Investment Portal formed another portfolio, Portfolio 701*, with shares selected between the period mid-November and December, 2006, based on the same factor, "fundamental technicality" employed in Portfolio 1.5 - EW.

The fundamental technicality factor was used to select the shares during the period mentioned. A total of 102 shares were selected and by 5th January, 2007, only 35 stocks remained in the watch after a round of elimination. The final 35 stocks were picked based on thier positive momentum observed from mid-November to December, 2006.
